Location: The Oxford Trust’s offices at Science Oxford, but some travel around the Milton Keynes, Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire (MKOB) region will be required.
Background
The Oxford Trust is an independent charitable foundation at the heart of Oxfordshire's science, education and enterprise networks. The Oxford Trust holds the STEMPOINT brokerage contract until 2011 for schools in Milton Keynes, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire (MKOB). Through this, we have a responsibility to provide all schools and colleges in this area with impartial advice and guidance on a wide range of curriculum enrichment and enhancement (E&E) activities in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths (STEM). Our role is designed to complement the support already provided by other partners, including Local Authorities and National Strategy Consultants. The aim is to help increase the quality and quantity of students moving into further STEM education, training and employment and the contract is funded through STEMNET.
Purpose of Role
The Oxford Trust is looking to recruit someone to deliver the STEMPOINT brokerage contract for schools and colleges in MKOB and to assist with the delivery of inspiring school programmes. They will be required to proactively connect with schools, colleges, education support organisations, STEM E&E providers and STEM based businesses in this region. They will be responsible for raising awareness, building relationships and providing advice and guidance that meets the needs of schools and colleges and enables them to offer their pupils exciting and motivating STEM experiences. The role will also involve working with others at The Oxford Trust to deliver education programmes in science enterprise and STEM careers awareness and to help create new opportunities for Science and Engineering Ambassador volunteer role models.
Person Specification
Good working knowledge of the Education sector, school and college agendas and good understanding of the needs of teachers.
A STEM degree and some prior experience in either STEM teaching or the delivery of school STEM enrichment activity and events.
Experience in effective partnership working, consensus building and project management.
Confident & inspiring with excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
Capable of working under own initiative with an eye for detail and an ability to multi-task.
Flexible and happy to travel around the local region as required to witness events and activities and to meet teachers and key partners (full driving licence and car are essential, travel expenses will be covered).
Principal Responsibilities
To deliver STEMPOINT brokerage services to MKOB schools in line with the requirements of the STEMNET contract
To assess schools’ level of engagement with STEM E&E and explore ways of encouraging ongoing feedback from them so their progress can be monitored and appropriate support given.
To carry out quarterly self-assessment processes and reporting to STEMNET and record brokerage activity on the national STEMNET database.
To set up and work with an advisory stakeholder forum.
To communicate effectively to schools & colleges to raise awareness of the STEMPOINT service
To attend as many local STEM teacher network meetings and conferences as possible in order to promote awareness of the STEMPOINT service and exciting STEM E&E opportunities.
To compile and send a bi-monthly STEM e-newsletter to local STEM teachers and ensure that relevant website content is kept up to date.
To research and write articles for a schools newsletter that shares their best practice in STEM.
To ensure effective communication via relevant Local Authority & National Strategy teams
To provide all MKOB schools and colleges with appropriate advice and guidance in order to improve their access to and engagement with STEM E&E activities for pupils
To develop good knowledge of local, regional and national STEM E&E provision
To respond promptly to requests from schools, carrying out research as required
To meet teachers to discuss their needs and to witness activity in schools where possible
To run events for teachers to disseminate information and share best practice
To develop and sustain productive partnerships with related organisations
To work effectively with all MKOB Local Authority advisory & National Strategy teams
To work effectively with MKOB EBPs, 14-19 Partnerships and relevant Diploma consortia
To attend local STEM employer forums and enable local STEM employers to make links with schools
To establish effective liaison with the MKOB Science and Engineering Ambassadors (SEAs) Manager at The Oxford Trust, assisting with the recruitment & training of SEAs and helping to develop opportunities for them.
To assist with the delivery of innovative education events and workshops, particularly in relation to science enterprise and STEM careers awareness
