| Mr Mike Ayre (Managing Director) | ||
Every client has different needs, and we invest a significant amount of time when we meet you to find out exactly what your requirements are.
You may have a new technology that needs total development; an existing product that needs improving or a production problem that needs resolving. In every case, we will spend time to make sure we propose the right project plan to meet your needs, drawn from these specific services: Research - to examine your products, your technology or your competitors. Concept design - the development of a range of alternative design possibilities Prototype development - developing the design into a working model of the product. Production design - detailing all aspects of the product so that it is ready to be manufactured Supplier sourcing - finding the right suppliers for your product, process and budget Project management - making sure the project is completed correctly and on time. | ||

| Design determines your product's quality, appeal, market position, capital investment, production costs and ultimate profitability.
Above all, design gives you a commercial edge - to make your product stand out from the competition. But good product design is about much more than appearance - it must create products that are profitable to make as well as good to look at. Our design services can help you walk this tightrope, combining commercial and creative strengths to produce extremely competitive products: Design research Understanding your market, your competition and the technical opportunities and challenges inherent in your project are prerequisites to success. Crucible can help identify the important issues and how they will affect the design and manufacture of your new product. Effective design research provides a firm foundation for the creative and technical work that follows. Concept design To make sure that we have explored every option when creating your new design, Crucible develops a wide range of concept designs. The alternatives that are examined depend on your particular requirements, but may include appearance, production, cost, ease of use, maintenance and a wide range of other issues. The selection of a concept design often involves balancing visual, commercial and technical considerations, and provides a basis for the development of a prototype design. Prototype design and development This is the stage during which the design becomes a real product, with all the features, manufacturing requirements and component details considered and built into three-dimensional computer models. These models are then used to create detailed models and working components that are used for testing and further development. Depending on the complexity of the design, the prototype and development stage may involve a number of iterative phases before the design is complete and ready for production. Crucible will always ensure that no time or costs are incurred that have not be discussed and agreed with you in advance. Crucible makes extensive use of rapid prototyping processes during this stage, and can advise you on how and when to use these techniques. Production data Once your design is fully developed and ready for production, Crucible will help you develop all the data needed to ensure accurate and efficient manufacture. The type of data required will depend heavily on the nature of the product - designs that use traditional processes will require fully detailed engineering drawings, whilst some processes can work directly from digital data. We can help you identify the most efficient and cost effective way of getting your product manufactured (See Manufacture) and prepare the right type of data for your processes. |
