| ...encouraging the study, application and communication of science, technology and engineering
Founded in 1985 by Sir Martin and Lady Audrey Wood, The Oxford Trust is an independent charitable foundation and a company limited by guarantee. The Trust pursues its aims by encouraging economic growth through innovation and technology transfer, by developing projects that enthuse young people about science and engineering and by promoting activity that stimulates and facilitates public engagement with science. Current Trust activities include an extensive programme of shows, workshops and events for schools, research into Innovation Centres, the annual Oxfordshire Science Festival, the Oxford Networks project which examines Oxfordshire's environment for innovation, a range of student placement programmes, the Oxfordshire Family Science programme and Curioxity hands-on science centre. The Trust takes particular pride in its independent and catalytic role at the heart of the science and enterprise networks of Oxfordshire. Over the last 15 years the Trust has developed a range of innovative projects a number of which are now delivered by others. It played a pioneering role in the development of innovation centres for the incubation of high-tech companies and in venture angel networks and was the driving force behind the creation of Oxfordshire Biotechnet Ltd and the Oxfordshire Investment Opportunity Network both of which now flourish as independent companies. Oxford Innovation, the Trust's own spin-out company, is a leading provider of services to the knowledge-based economy. The Trust has a track record of working in partnership with others. It played a key role in the development of Venturefest and was intimately involved in VenturefestOxford.net both as a founder sponsor and as manager of the day-to-day operation of the network. In June 2004 the network was integrated into the Trust's portfolio enabling the Trust to offer a truly coherent and coordinated Oxfordshire network of organisations and individuals engaged in science and enterprise activity. |
