International Summer Science Institute - scholarships for UK students

The Dr Bessie Lawrence International Summer Science Institute (ISSI) is a four-week summer programme which includes lab projects, lectures, and field study. Up to 90 international students, in the summer between A-Levels and entering university, spend three weeks in the Institute's laboratories working on actual research projects. The programme moves to a field school to explore Israel's diverse ecosystems, wildlife and archaeology. Visits to Jerusalem and the North of Israel are also on the itinerary. Extensive recreational and library facilities are open to the students.

The programme provides an invaluable opportunity to be involved in research and to be part of a scientific community. Recent student projects included: 'Modelling and Data Analysis of Audience Applause' (Physics Dept.), 'Mybolast Fusion in Drosphila' (Biology Dept.), and 'Ring-Walking Phenomena in Stabilbazole Complexes' (Chemistry Dept.). Students return with a memories of amazing experiences, new friendships and clear views about their future.

The fantastic news for 2009 UK students is the full scholarship awarded by Weizmann UK to applicants accepted to the programme (please note airtravel is not included). Application is open to schools throughout the country, students need to be in year 13 to apply.
