Request to help Oxfam and ASE in the publication of a new science teaching resource
ASE and Oxfam are working on a publication, and Oxfam is looking for practising Science teachers to act as critical readers to help assess it. Below are details of the project and the timing:The book will be called, 'Global Health: A Handbook for Science Teachers' and will be published in April 2009. Its aim
is to help science teachers bring a global dimension to their teaching, to enable young people to learn about important
global issues and to think about how far science can help achieve positive changes. The book will be 120 pages long, and will consist of and introduction to global health, teachers' instructions and photocopiable material for pupils.
The critical reading stage will take place between 18th August and 2nd September. They will ask a selection of teachers from different parts of the UK and from different types of schools to read a few chapters of the book and to send written feedback on a feedback form. A fee of £50 will be payable.
If you are selected, Oxfam will need a definite commitment that you can do this by 2nd September. If you would like to be considered, please send Isabel Tucker at Oxfam your home address (for the contract and so that she can send you the material) and a few details about the type of school you teach in and the amount of teaching experience you have had.
You will of course recieve a free copy of the book and be mentioned in the acknowedgements.
Isabel can be contacted by email ITucker@oxfam.org.uk or on 01865 473598.
